A canal city on Portugal's central coast, known as the Portuguese Venice.

Aveiro is a flat coastal city in central Portugal, known for its network of canals navigated by moliceiro boats — brightly painted traditional boats originally used to harvest seaweed. The city is often called the "Venice of Portugal," though its character is distinctly its own, with Art Nouveau façades lining the main canals and a nearby lagoon opening to the Atlantic.
Aveiro is also known for its soft eggs (ovos moles), a local sweet made from egg yolk and sugar, often shaped like shells or barrels. The nearby village of Costa Nova, with its striped striped houses along the lagoon, is a popular addition to a visit.
