Óbidos is a beautifully preserved medieval walled town in central Portugal, known for its white-washed houses trimmed with yellow and blue, narrow cobbled streets and a complete 14th-century wall. The town was a wedding gift from Portuguese kings to their queens for centuries, which helped preserve its character.
Visitors can walk along the fortified walls and explore the castle, now converted into a historic hotel. The main street is lined with small shops selling local crafts and the town's famous ginginha (cherry liqueur), often served in edible chocolate cups.
GuidedLX offers private day trips from Lisbon that include Óbidos, often combined with Nazaré and the Alcobaça Monastery.
