Évora is the principal city of the Alentejo region and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located approximately 130 kilometres east of Lisbon. Its well-preserved historic centre contains over two thousand years of history, enclosed by medieval walls that have remained largely intact.
The Roman Temple of Évora is the best-preserved Roman structure in Portugal, with its Corinthian columns still standing in the main square. Nearby, the medieval cathedral and the 16th-century Church of São Francisco with its Chapel of Bones are among the city's most visited landmarks.
The surrounding Alentejo plains produce some of Portugal's most respected wines and olive oils. The region is known for its hearty cuisine, including dishes such as açorda and migas. A visit to a local winery can be incorporated into the itinerary on request.
